Maruti Suzuki Fronx: In India, we love a good deal. Anything that chips away at the final price of a car feels like a small victory. So when a policy change from the government triggers actual savings on a brand-new compact SUV, people start paying attention. And that’s what’s happened with the Maruti Suzuki Fronx.
Thanks to a recent update in the GST classification structure, select variants of the Fronx, particularly the 1.2-litre petrol trims, now qualify for a lower GST slab of 18%, down from the earlier 28% with cess. That technicality may sound dull, but in buyer language, it means this: up to ₹25,000 less on ex-showroom prices, according to a report by CarToq and NDTV Auto.
So, what’s the deal with the Fronx?
If you haven’t followed closely, the Fronx is one of Maruti’s newest entries under the Nexa umbrella. It’s a stylish sub-4m crossover that blends elements of the Baleno hatchback with SUV-inspired aesthetics from the Grand Vitara.
It offers two engine choices:
- A 1.2L DualJet naturally aspirated petrol, ideal for daily city usage.
- A more powerful 1.0L BoosterJet turbo petrol, aimed at drivers who enjoy spirited performance.
How much do you actually save?
According to dealership feedback and media reports, here’s the rough breakdown post-GST cut:

While the BoosterJet variants do not receive a GST cut, the 1.2L NA petrol variants do, as they meet the GST criteria of engine size under 1200cc and length under 4m.
