With rising fuel costs and growing interest in hybrid SUVs, Renault’s strategy could reshape the mid-size SUV segment.
Turbo-Petrol Options Deliver Punchy Performance for Highway Drivers
Renault Duster 2026: The entry-level 1.0L turbo-petrol produces 100hp and comes paired with a 6-speed manual, targeting budget-conscious buyers seeking efficiency and practicality.
For enthusiasts, the 1.3L turbo-petrol stands out with 163hp and 280Nm torque. Available with a 6-speed manual or DCT, this variant promises strong overtaking power and confident highway cruising. Estimated mileage is around 18–22 kmpl combined, making it suitable for long-distance drivers who prioritize performance over electrification.
Deliveries for turbo variants are expected to begin from April 2026.
Strong Hybrid E-Tech Brings 80% EV City Driving Capability
The headline feature is the 1.8L strong hybrid (E-Tech) system. It combines a petrol engine with two electric motors, delivering a total output of 160hp through an 8-speed DHT gearbox. A 1.4kWh battery allows up to 80% of city driving in EV mode under ideal conditions.
While official ARAI mileage figures are pending, estimates suggest 25–30 kmpl equivalent efficiency in urban use — significantly higher than the turbo-petrol options. Launch is expected around Diwali 2026, with pricing likely between ₹18–22 lakh.
