Gogoro Electric Scooters: Hero MotoCorp's Vida V1 series of electric scooters was recently introduced. The news surrounding that event frequently mentioned a Taiwanese brand called Gogoro. This brand is most likely providing Hero MotoCorp battery swapping technology, which we now see on the Vida V1.
Gogoro brand mentions that it will speed up battery swapping infrastructure in India
It will also be available for Vida products. Gogoro's products have yet to be launched in India. The brand has also trademarked the Viva name. Gogoro recently announced that they will enter India on November 3rd. It is unknown whether there will be a launch event or just a formal session to reveal more information.
Electric Scooters of Gogoro for India
Gogoro will unveil its vision for smart energy, urban transportation, de-carbonizing India's urban mobility, and the last-mile sector. A B2B product is highly likely given the company's mention of the last-mile sector. This corresponds to the Viva name being trademarked in India in October 2019.
Viva by Gogoro is a small and affordable electric scooter that is ideal for B2B applications. With a 3 kW (likely peak power) hub-mounted electric motor, it can travel 85 km at a constant speed of 30 km/h. It has 85 Nm of torque at the motor due to the hub motor, which will not be translated to real-world performance.
It has a colourful and minimalistic body with traditional cycle parts. The front design is reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe's iconic photograph. If Gogoro launches it in India, we can expect it to cost between Rs. 75K and Rs. 80K. It competes with the Hero Electric Nyx HX and the Okinawa Dual 100.
Is the Ola S1 Pro a competitor scooter?
Ola Electric is currently the one to beat, as evidenced by our 2W EV retail sales for September 2022. The Indian firm is aggressively expanding its portfolio, even venturing into 4W EVs. Sticking with 2W EVs, Ola recently introduced the S1 Air, which costs just under Rs. 80K.
Gogoro is expected to launch its S1 in India to compete with Ola's S1 Pro.
It will, however, have a different name when it is released. This is a B2C product aimed at the mainstream PV market. It has a minimalist design and is quite stunning to look at. It's a well-thought-out design that comes together nicely to form a futuristic product.
The S1 by Gogoro has all of the features that a modern electric scooter should have.
Having said that, it is not lagging behind in terms of mechanicals either (electricals in this case). It has a 7.2 kW motor mounted in the middle of an aluminium monocoque chassis. It has a maximum torque of 27 Nm. At a constant speed of 30 km/h, the range is 150 km.
Similarly, the Gogoro brand will work to establish battery-swapping stations in major cities, followed by tier-2 cities. These battery swap stations will almost certainly be shared with Hero MotoCorp's Vida electric scooters. It is not yet known what the Taiwanese company has planned for India. Whatever it is, it will come to light on November 3rd.
