Ram 1500 REV: A few months have passed since Stellantis unveiled the production version of the 2025 Ram 1500 REV at Super Bowl LVII events. Now that the New York International Auto Show has started, the automaker is finally ready to talk about the truck's battery choices, estimated range, payload, and towing abilities.
Ram is ready to start proving some of those promises
Ram has been clear about its market goals ever since it showed off its EV truck concept. The automaker made it clear that it wanted to make a vehicle that was the best in its class in terms of range, payload, towing capacity, and charge times. Even though that may have sounded like marketing talk, Ram is ready to start proving some of those promises.
Drive up to 500 miles on a single charge
All of this starts with the truck's two battery pack choices, which hold up the Ram 1500 REV's STLA Frame chassis. Stellantis thinks that a 168-kWh battery pack will give a Ram 1500 REV up to 350 miles of range. The battery pack will be standard on all Ram 1500 REVs. For comparison, the normal battery for the Ford F-150 Lightning has a capacity of just 98 kWh, which means it can only go 230 miles on a single charge. Ram must not have been happy with this difference, because they added a 229 kWh extended-range battery pack to the list of choices. That pack is so big that it is bigger than the 212-kWh pack in the GMC Hummer EV, which is the size of a Miata. Ram says that buyers should be able to drive up to 500 miles on a single charge thanks to the huge battery. The company also says that soon there will be a new XR model with the best range in its class.
Fast charging is crucial when working with big battery packs like those found in the Ram 1500 REV. The carmaker hasn't cut corners in this area, which is good news for people who might buy a Ram EV. Ram drivers will be able to add up to 110 miles of range in just ten minutes at speeds of up to 350 kW, thanks to the truck's 800-volt fast charging architecture. The truck also allows bidirectional charging from vehicle-to-vehicle, vehicle-to-home, and vehicle-to-grid. This gives the vehicle a lot of flexibility and different ways to be used. Even the bed and trunk have their own power systems that can give up to 7.2 kW and 3.6 kW of power, respectively.
The Ram 1500 REV will be able to carry up to 2700 pounds
Truck customers need to do more than just drive long miles, of course. To meet these goals, Ram has put a lot of effort into making sure their EV can tow and carry a lot. The Ram 1500 REV will be able to carry up to 2700 pounds, which is more than the Lightning, which can carry up to 2235 pounds. With a claimed 14,000-pound weight, the truck should also be able to pull more than its competitors.
With the extended range battery, the F-150 Lightning can pull up to 10,000 pounds when compared to this measure. However, the Ram confirms output goals of 654 horsepower and 620 lb-ft of torque from its dual 250-kilowatt electric drive modules, so it falls short of Ford in some respects. The Ford only has 426 hp, but it has 775 lb-ft of power, which is almost as much as a supercar. Ram says that the truck should be able to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour (mph) in 4.4 seconds. During tests by Car and Driver, the F-150 Lightning could do the run in 4.0 seconds.
