Delhi Metro: The Delhi government has announced higher funding for Delhi Metro while also deciding to clear long-pending payments.
Approval Of Important Delhi Metro Corridors
The state cabinet has finally approved financial support for 3 important Phase IV metro corridors. These include the routes from Lajpat Nagar to Saket, Rithala to Kundli and Inderlok to Indraprastha. The government will contribute ₹3,386 crore for these projects. ₹ 940 crore out of this amount has already been released in the existing financial year. Another ₹ 336 crore will be provided soon.
The government has also decided to make a payment of approximately ₹ 2,700 crore in old dues associated with Metro Phases I, II and III. The Delhi Chief Minister said clearing these pending payments is required to maintain a good pace of Metro expansion in the state.
The expansion of Metro train services in the capital city would be beneficial to curb the menace of air pollution. The focus on the Metro expansion by the Delhi government has been backed by a monumental increase in the transport department’s budget. The government raised the budget to ₹9,110 crore in 2025-26 from ₹ 5,702 crore in 2024-25.
Construction on the 8-km Saket G Block–Lajpat Nagar corridor has already been started by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). It will have the following stations: Lajpat Nagar, Andrews Ganj, GK-1, Chirag Delhi, Pushpa Bhawan, Saket District Center, Pushp Vihar and Saket G Block. It will help connect with the Magenta Line at Chirag Delhi and with the Violet and Pink Lines at Lajpat Nagar. The line will also link up with the under-construction Tughlakabad–Aerocity corridor of the Golden Line.
