Delhi Pollution: Polluting Units To Be Sealed Without Notice, Will Delhi Industries Finally Take Environmental Laws Seriously?

Delhi Pollution: Polluting units and non-compliant establishments across the national capital violating GRAP-4 norms would face strong action.

Delhi Pollution: Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa has announced that polluting units and non-compliant establishments across the national capital would face strong action.

Sirsa said an extensive enforcement drive is currently underway across Delhi. This would help identify and sea polluting hubs and factories without prior notice. The Minister added authorities would not follow the usual process of issuing notices or warnings. He added that strict action would also be taken against private offices that would be found violating GRAP-4 norms.

Delhi Pollution-Record PUCs Issued

In the last few days, a record number of pollution under control (PUC) certificates has been issued. Sirsa said 2, 12,332 PUC from December 16 onwards have been issued. He also added the Delhi government is removing large quantities of solid waste in metric tonnes from the garbage dumps across the National Capital.

A cabinet meeting was convened by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on pollution at 12 pm to review the situation and discuss further steps.

The overall Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 366 around 8 am according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). This demonstrated a marginal improvement from Sunday when the AQI was 377 at 4 pm. Anand Vihar recorded an AQI of 402, slipping into the “severe” category while Wazirpur (404), Bawana (408) and Narela (418) also remained in the “severe” range.
