Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Anurag Dhanda has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Delhi government of financial irregularities over the purchase of bicycles for schoolgirls, alleging a significant difference between the government’s reported purchase price and the price at which AAP MLAs procured similar bicycles.
In a social media post, Dhanda alleged that the Delhi government purchased bicycles for ₹7,000 each, while AAP MLAs bought what he described as the same bicycles for ₹4,200 and brought them to the Delhi Assembly.
Anurag Dhanda Questions Bicycle Procurement Cost
Dhanda directly criticised Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and alleged that the government had caused financial losses involving money meant for girls in Delhi.
The AAP leader’s central claim was based on the alleged ₹2,800 per-bicycle price difference. He questioned why the government reportedly paid ₹7,000 for a bicycle when AAP MLAs were able to purchase one for ₹4,200.
However, the social media statement by Dhanda does not by itself establish whether the bicycles were identical in specifications, quantity, procurement terms, warranty, transportation, taxes or other contractual conditions.
AAP MLAs Take Bicycles to Assembly
According to Dhanda’s post, AAP MLAs brought the bicycles purchased at ₹4,200 to the Delhi Assembly to highlight the alleged price discrepancy.
The move appears intended to turn the bicycle procurement issue into a political debate over government spending and public accountability.
The allegations come amid continued political clashes between the AAP and the BJP over governance, expenditure and the functioning of the Delhi government.
