Atishi criticised what she termed a “fake” ₹1 lakh crore Budget presented last year, claiming it did not translate into tangible improvements on the ground. She specifically pointed to gaps in fire safety infrastructure, alleging that even essential equipment like fire brigade ladders was not adequately provided.
Palam Fire Incident Raises Concerns
Referring to the Palam fire incident, Atishi stated that nine lives were lost and suggested that better-equipped fire services could have potentially prevented the tragedy. She used the incident to highlight what she described as systemic failures in governance and preparedness.
Accusations of Suppression in Assembly
Atishi further alleged that opposition MLAs were being restricted from raising such issues inside the Assembly. She claimed that the government was attempting to avoid scrutiny and said that AAP leaders would continue to raise these concerns both inside and outside the House.
Demand for Accountability
The protest also included demands for accountability from BJP leaders, with calls for resignation over the alleged lapses. AAP MLA Imran Hussain supported the protest, adding that requests had been made to allow suspended MLAs to participate in the Budget session.
