Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann emphasized that along with modern education, it is equally important to teach students about the great sacrifices of Sikh Gurus and the rich history of Sikhism in schools. Sharing his thoughts, the Chief Minister said that such teachings help shape strong values, courage, and a sense of responsibility among the younger generation.
Bhagwant Mann Highlights Importance of Teaching Sikh History and Sacrifices in Schools
Referring to the “Safar-e-Shahadat”, Bhagwant Mann said he was deeply moved after witnessing innocent children narrate the historic journey of sacrifices. He described the moment as emotional and inspiring, stating that hearing these powerful stories from young voices strengthens the collective memory and identity of the community.
The Chief Minister also praised teachers for their dedicated efforts in connecting the coming generation with historical truths, moral values, and cultural heritage. He said educators play a crucial role in ensuring that the legacy of bravery, faith, and selfless sacrifice continues to inspire future generations.
The event, where a child was seen carrying a poster with the caption “Safar-e-Shahadat – Anandpur Qila Chhodia”, symbolised the early chapters of Sikh history and reminded people of the sacrifices made for faith and humanity. Bhagwant Mann concluded by expressing gratitude and reverence, saying that Punjab will always remain proud of its history, its teachers, and its children who carry forward these timeless lessons.
Bhagwant Mann further said that such historical and spiritual education helps children understand the true meaning of courage, sacrifice, and service to humanity, which cannot be taught through textbooks alone. He stressed that when students learn about the lives and sacrifices of the Sikh Gurus from a young age, it instills humility, discipline, and a deep respect for values like justice and equality.
He also noted that initiatives like Safar-e-Shahadat make history come alive, allowing children to emotionally connect with the past rather than viewing it as distant events. According to the Chief Minister, these experiences nurture responsible citizens who are aware of their roots and are better prepared to contribute positively to society.
Bhagwant Mann added that the Punjab government will continue to support educational and cultural programmes that promote Punjab’s heritage, spiritual legacy, and moral teachings. He reiterated that preserving and passing on this legacy is not just a cultural responsibility but a duty towards future generations, ensuring that the sacrifices made at places like Anandpur Sahib are remembered with pride and reverence.
