Bharat NCAP: Bharat NCAP, India’s new car testing organisation, is scheduled to launch on Friday, December 15. Starting on this day, the organization—which is based on Global NCAP—will start evaluating the first batch of cars. As India’s own new vehicle inspection programme, the agency was formally established in August. With its own domestic auto crash testing centre, India is the fifth nation in the world, behind the US, China, South Korea, and Japan. Previously, vehicles manufactured in India were tested by Global NCAP.

Companies including Maruti Suzuki India, Hyundai Motor India, Tata Motors, and Mahindra & Mahindra would be among the first batch of vehicles to undergo crash testing, according to an ET Auto article.

As per Maruti’s previous announcement, the first three vehicles to undergo Bharat NCAP testing are the luxury hatchback Baleno, the compact SUV Brezza, and the mid-size SUV Grand Vitara.

Testing details

A series of NCAP crash tests will be carried out in India. This will contain electronic stability control (ESC), pedestrian safety compliance, side pole impact, side barrier impact, front impact, and more. At a later time, the programme is intended to integrate autonomous emergency braking (AEB) and rear crash prevention with lane departure warning.

A minimum of 27 points in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 41 points in Child Occupant Protection (COP) will be required for cars to receive a 5-star safety rating. Cars need to have six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), a front end that complies with pedestrian safety regulations, and seatbelt reminders for the front seats in order to receive a minimum 3-star safety rating. With regard to Bharat NCAP testing, more than thirty models are now prepared.
