Bharat NCAP: What is it and how will affect car insurance, Details

Bharat NCAP: The long-awaited Bharat NCAP (Bharat New Car Assessment Programme) was officially inaugurated by the Union government. It will be applicable for vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes and aims to increase road safety and decrease fatalities.

Bharat NCAP details

The vehicles are put through extensive crash tests for front, rear, and side collisions as part of Bharat NCAP’s strategy, which is comparable to that of its international equivalents. It will simultaneously evaluate the effectiveness of seatbelts and airbags, the two essential safety features of an automobile.

Manufacturers can choose to voluntarily submit their vehicles for testing in accordance with the Automotive Industry Standard (AIS) 197 through the Bharat NCAP crash test assessment programme.

Another goal of Bharat NCAP is to make Indian cars more export-worthy. The testing organisation will also be free to pick up vehicles from the dealerships.

How will it affect car insurance?

According to certain auto industry experts, insurance providers may be able to execute a preferential premium pricing strategy as a result of the Bharat NCAP.
The BNCAP programme will give insurance firms a good opportunity to provide preferential premium pricing for cars that obtain more stars; the more stars, the less expensive the cost. That will be a tried-and-true tactic to get the potential consumer to choose a safer car over just one that is more affordable.

When will BNCAP come into effect?

Bharat NCAP will come into effect in India from 1st October 2023.
