After TCS, Tata Steel fires 38 Employees over ‘code of conduct’ breach, details

Tata steel has fired 35 of its employees.

Tata: Tata Steel has sacked a total of 35 employees for breaching the company’s code of conduct. Additionally people have been terminated for alleged sexual misconduct. This development comes days after Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) fired six employees for their involvement in a recruitment bribery case.

TCS had found six employees guilty of accepting favors from specific staffing firms for the hiring of contract workers. The company is currently carrying investigation around the involvement of three other employees in the case.

Tracing the misconduct

Chairman Chandrasekaran revealed that the company received two separate whistleblower complaints one related to the appointment of contractual workers in the United States and the other one for India. Complaints were registered in March after thorough investigation of the matter.

Chandrasekaran remains unclear about the exact favors these employees received but the their behaviour clearly suggested that they were favoring certain firms.

Chandrasekaran emphasized that the company would thoroughly asses the entire process of supplier management with business associates in order to identify and rectify any weaknesses to prevent occurrence of such incidents in the future.

Other developments

On June 26, , TCS appointed a new head to oversee the recruitment of temporary workers following an internal probe into the bribes-for-jobs scandal. The event had led to firing of several executives and the blacklisting of certain staffing firms. The TCS has denied allegations of seeking bribes for recruitment process but they have acknowledged the role played by unethical behavior. The resource allocation group is responsible for talent deployment and filling gaps through business associates.

Chandrasekaran also detailed that TCS had invested ₹2,500 crore in intellectual property generation during the fiscal year 2023 and possessed a fund of ₹50,000 crore for growth requirements.

One of the company’s focus for the year is to reduce attrition rates. Chairman Chandrasekaran stated that attrition among women in IT services was either lower or on par with the overall company average.
