  • Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in her sixth consecutive budget, allocated ₹86000 crore for MNREGS in 2023-24, reflecting a significant 43% increase from the budget estimates of ₹60000 for the same period.
  • The budget also includes ₹3.8 lakh crore for all other centrally sponsored schemes designated as "core," such as integrated health and nutrition programs. This allocation represents a rise from the revised estimates of ₹3.3 lakh crore in 2023-24, with the budget estimates standing at ₹3.8 lakh crore.
  • Notable among the increased allocations is a 3% boost (₹21,200 crore) for key programs addressing malnutrition, including the Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0 initiatives by the women and child development ministry.
  • Finance Minister Sitharaman emphasized the consolidation of various schemes for maternal and childcare, bringing them under a comprehensive program to enhance implementation synergy.
  • The budget estimates for FY24 for Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0 stand at ₹20554 crore, indicating a 1.4% increase compared to the revised estimate allocation of ₹20263 crore.
