Just like with RBI rules, there is no limit on the amount of cash you can carry on a domestic flight in India. Its only role is to investigate your case—if you carry above Rs. 200,000, it can levy a fine on this amount or confiscate it, if you can debunk its source. 

Rules as Per the Directorate General of Civil Aviation

As per the directorate General of Civil Aviation, there are no certain restrictions regarding the cash you can carry on a domestic flight in India. But you need to abide by guidelines of both RBI and I-T department. Security personnel deputed on the airport may inquire the amount of cash you carry if they suspect it is from an illegal source. 

How Much Cash Can You Carry in International Flights from India?

There is no limit on the amount of cash you can carry in international flights from India. As per Reserve Bank of India guidelines, Indian travelers can carry up to USD 3,000 per trip. If the amount is more than USD 5,000, passengers need to declare it at customs. They can carry larger amounts through banks drafts, traveler’s checks, or store value cards. 

Tips on How You Can Carry Cash On a Flight

• While carrying cash on a domestic flight in India, prepare yourself to explain the source from where you have obtained the amount of cash.
• It is suggested that you always carry a small amount of cash to avoid risks and use debit or card cards, or internet banking for security and convenience. 
• However, if you carry a large amount of sum, you must have proper records, or documentation to prove the source of cash.
