ChatGPT users beware! A fake version on prowl, can steal your Facebook and Financial Data

Cyber security firm Kaspersky has revealed that researchers have discovered a fresh malware campaign which has replicated the AI chatbot with an intention cheat. As we are aware that ChatGPT designed by Open AI is capable of generating human like response to users queries has taken the world by storm since its launch in November 2022.

Fake version of ChatGPT cashing on the popularity of ChatGPT

Kaspersky has identified fake version of ChatGPT , which are being distributed as malware via communities on Facebook on the desktops of unsuspecting users.

Kesperesky security expert Darya Ivanova stated,

 “This campaign targeting ChatGPT is a prime example of how attackers are leveraging social engineering techniques to exploit the trust that users place in popular brands and services. It is important for users to understand that, just because a service appears to be legitimate, it doesn’t mean that it is.”

Their have been reports that Fobo Trojan can steal data such as Facebook, TikTok and Google account credentials, as well as personal and corporate financial information. Whenever unsuspecting users click on the link in the post , they are directed to professionally designed website which looks indetical to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Designed to steal information

Website also directs users to download a fake ChatGPT version for windows , that is actually an archive comprising of executable file. However, when installation process starts , it ends abruptly with an error message stating that program cannot be installed.

Report states that the installation of the program starts without the user’s knowledge and Trojan-PSW.Win64 is installed on users computer. Trojan has been designed to steal information about saved accounts from browsers such as Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Brave.

Malicious Trojan steals login credentials as well as attempts to obtain additional information , such as amount of advertising money and the current balance of the business accounts. Users worldover have been attacked with the Malware.
