IndiGo waives rescheduling fees, adds special flights as violence worsens in Manipur

Manipur Violence: The airline IndiGo said on Saturday that it will waive the rescheduling and cancellation fees on flights to and from Imphal from May 4 to May 7 as the situation in Manipur worsens. The airline also disclosed that it would run two more, special flights on May 6 from Imphal to Kolkata.

The majority of the refugees are from the Kuki community

Following violence in the adjacent state, more than 1,100 residents of Manipur’s Jiribam district and its surrounding areas have crossed the interstate boundary into Assam’s Cachar district, according to reports. The majority of the refugees are from the Kuki community, and they are worried that the attackers who attacked them on Thursday night as they fled to safety in Cachar have destroyed their homes in Manipur.

Demand for the Meitei community in the state to be classified as a Scheduled Tribe

The All Tribal Students’ Union of Manipur (ATSUM) starts a “Tribal Solidarity March,” which is when violence in Manipur first started. Following a Manipur High Court order on April 19, the march was arranged in opposition to the demand for the Meitei community in the state to be classified as a Scheduled Tribe (ST). On Saturday, when violence increased in Manipur, four persons were shot dead in Churachandpur while security forces were evacuating Meiteis from the region, and a fifth person was slain in Imphal.
