Narayana Murthy red flags moonlighting, says India needs to raise the bar, honest work culture need of the hour

Infosys Co-founder N.R Narayanamurthy speaking at Asia Economic Dialogue organized by the Ministry of External Affairs in the national capital warned against moonlighting and stated  India needs a work culture of honesty, where there is no favoritism. He also went on state that quicker decision making and hassle less transactions are needed for our country to prosper at a global stage.

He further opined that only a small section of the population works hard in the country , and majority of the people are yet to imbibe the culture essential to fulfill the aspiration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Murthy stated,

“We need to build a culture of quick decision making, quick implementation, hassle less transactions, honesty in transactions, no favouritism,” 

In his message to India’s youth , Narayanmurthy stated that they should not indulge in moonlighting or insistence on working from home

He stated,

“My fervent desire and humble desire to youngsters is please don’t fall into this trap of I will moonlight, I will do work from home, I will come to office three days in a week,”

India is moving at a lethargic pace

Narayanmurthy recounted the growth trajectories of China and India and stated that their economies were of same size in 1940’s.  However, today China’s economy is six times larger than the Indian Economy because of the work culture it has adopted.

He also noted that there is a small section of population in India which is diligent , honest and disciplined in its work ethics. However majority of Indians shun these work traits.

Murthy also stated that people might call him an anti-national due to the views he has shared. He also shared his China experience to reiterate his point and stated that while setting up facility in Sanghai in 2006. The Mayor of Shanghai city allotted him a 25 acre land parcel after it was selected by him. Further Muthy bemoaned India’s pace of movement and stated that corruption still exists at the lower levels.

“If we want the business people to stay only in India and do everything in India, I think they will be very happy to do. All that we are respectfully requesting is that quick decisions must be taken, they must be implemented quickly and they should be no harassment, no unnecessary hurdle,”.
