Infosys co-founder NR Narayana Murthy has initiated a nationwide discussion by suggesting that India's youth should be prepared to work 70 hours a week to enhance the nation's work culture and effectively compete on the global stage.
Murthy highlighted the pressing need to elevate India's work productivity
In a candid conversation with former Infosys CFO Mohandas Pai on 3one4 Capital's podcast 'The Record,' Murthy highlighted the pressing need to elevate India's work productivity. He pointed out that India's productivity levels are among the lowest globally and that the nation must increase its working hours to catch up with economies that have made substantial progress in recent decades.
Murthy drew comparisons to post-World War II Japan and Germany, where both countries encouraged a culture of extended working hours and dedication to foster their recoveries.
He also identified other obstacles to India's progress, including government corruption and bureaucratic inefficiencies, emphasizing the need to remove these hindrances for India to become a global leader.
Murthy called on India's youth to take on the responsibility of nation-building, stating, "So, my request is that our youngsters must say, 'This is my country. I'd like to work 70 hours a week."
