The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has swung into action in view of the ongoing controversy over Bournvita, a household health powder drink. He has issued a notice to the company Mondelez in this regard. In which it has been said that the commission has received a complaint regarding the addition of sugar in Bournvita. In which it has been said that apart from sugar, the mixture formula being used in Bournvita can be dangerous for children. In such a situation, the Child Commission has asked the company to immediately remove all misleading advertisements and claims made on the packaging material. Along with this, the company has been asked to respond within seven days to present its case.
In fact some time ago social media influencer and nutritionist Revanth Himatsingka in his video talked about using more sugar in Bournivita. They claimed that Bournvita contained sugar, cocoa solids and cancer-causing colourants. After which netizens raised Bournvita questions while sharing his video on social media.
Videos of Himatsingka were also shared by actor Paresh Rawal to politician Kirti Azad
When the matter caught fire, a clarification came from the company Mondelez. According to him, Bournvita has been made completely scientific and according to the laws regarding food in the country, which is healthy as well as tasty. Mondelez India said its Bournbeata contains 7.5 grams of sugar in each 20-gram serving, which is about one and a half teaspoons. This is well below the recommended daily intake of sugar for children and is in line with the country's regulatory guidelines.
For the first time in the world, Bournvita was introduced as a health drink in the year 1920. And the journey started from there reached India in the year 1948. Cadbury entered India in 1948 and with that the Bournvita brand reached India. The identity of Bournvita is linked to a village. Actually the factory was opened in Bournville lane near Birmingham. And this village itself became the identity of Bournvita. And Bournvita is named after this village. The National Commission for Children has also forwarded Bournvita's complaint to FSSAI and the concerned consumer affairs officer.
