Nike: Nike filed federal complaints on Monday against rivals Skechers (SKX.N) and New Balance, claiming that the latter two had infringed on patents protecting Nike’s technology for creating sneakers.

The claims asserted that some basketball, soccer, and running shoes made by Skechers and New Balance were using Nike’s copyrighted “Flyknit” technology illegally.

Nike sues Skechers and New Balance

The claims allege that a number of Skechers and New Balance trainers, as well as Nike athletic shoes, violate Nike’s proprietary Flyknit technology. Nike claimed in the lawsuits that it can produce high-performance uppers with less waste and materials thanks to its trademarked Flyknit technology.
According to the complaint, Nike’s patents are violated by footwear from New Balance’s FuelCell, Fresh Foam, and other lines. The lawsuit claims that the Ultra Flex and Glide Step brands of Skechers sneakers infringe upon the patents.
According to reports, Nike has requested an injunction prohibiting New Balance and Skechers from ever again infringing on the patents, along with an undisclosed sum of money in penalties.

Flyknit technology

Nike makes sports shoes with a technology called Flyknit. Targeted regions of support, stretch, and breathability are created in lightweight uppers made of high-strength fibres. A sock-like fit and minimal seams are achieved by precisely engineering the uppers.
