Government of Uzbekistan has taken major action against Noida's cough syrup company Doc 1 Max on the allegation of death of children due to consumption of Noida's cough syrup company. The Central Government has recommended to the State Drug Controller Authority to cancel the manufacturing license of Marion Biotech. The license of the company will be suspended soon. The drug inspector of Gautam Budh Nagar told that out of 36 samples for testing from Marion Biotech, 22 samples were found to be adulterated with ethylene glycol. Considering it serious, action is being taken.
During the investigation, earlier on January 9, the production of medicines in the company was stopped. Along with this, the license was suspended on 12 January. Last year in December 2022, the Uzbekistan government had alleged that complaints were coming regarding the cough syrup Doc-1 Max of the Noida-based company. 18 children have died after drinking this cough syrup. On the information of the Uzbekistan government, the World Health Organization had alerted the central government, after which the central and state government teams reached the Noida-based company and collected samples of the medicines. A total of 36 samples were sent for testing, out of which 22 samples were found to be adulterated.The Uttar Pradesh Drugs Controlling and Licensing Authority said on this matter that Marian Biotech, a pharma firm that supplied cough syrup that caused the death of children in Uzbekistan, would be asked to withdraw its products from abroad and an alert would be issued soon. According to news agency ANI, the central government has recommended to the state drug authority to cancel the manufacturing license of Marion Biotech.
The state Drugs Controlling and Licensing Authority had already suspended the manufacturing license of the company after the World Health Organization issued a medical alert on two drugs manufactured by them.
