Nokia employees will be able to work remotely three days per week

After its existing work from home policy expires in December, Nokia employees will be able to work up to three days a week remotely, with expanded support for flexible working hours beginning in January.

In a survey of its employees performed at the end of last year, the majority said they wished to work two to three days each week remotely, up from two days on average prior to the coronavirus outbreak.

“The pandemic forced organizations to change. Technology gave people the tools to innovate. In many cases, the results have been too good to go back to the old way of doing things,” Chief Executive Pekka Lundmark said.

The corporation, which had roughly 92,000 employees in 130 countries at the end of 2020, announced in March that it wants to reduce up to 10,000 jobs in the next two years to save money and spend more in research.

Nokia aims to reorganise its workplaces such that teamwork and meetings take up up to 70% of the space in some locations, with less space set up for desks.

Offices in Dallas, Singapore and Budapest have already been reconfigured, with further sites expected to be completed by the end of the year as Nokia follows companies worldwide in opting for more hybrid working in the wake of the pandemic.

Carmaker Renault and Stellantis, the maker of Peugeot and Citroen cars, has made agreements with workers to allow employees to work from home for up to three days a week.
