Petrol and diesel prices remain static in domestic market

State-owned oil company IOCL has released the prices of petrol and diesel on Saturday. Even today there has been no change in oil prices. At the same time, there is a fall in the prices of crude oil in the international market even today. Oil prices have remained stable in the domestic market this month.

The government had cut the price of petrol by Rs 5 and that of diesel by Rs 10. Following this decision several status, mostly ruled by National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and allies have also cut the Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel prices.

In the national capital, petrol is currently sold for Rs 103.97; while diesel rate stood at Rs 86.67, according to Indian Oil Corporation.

In Mumbai, petrol is retailed at Rs 109.98 per litre; while diesel is being sold at Rs 94.14 per litre.

In Kolkata, the price of petrol is presently Rs 104.67 per litre, while diesel is Rs 89.79 per litre.

A litre of petrol was sold in Chennai for the same price of Rs 101.40.

In Bengaluru, petrol is available at ₹100.58 per litre and diesel at ₹85.01 and in Hyderabad, one litre of petrol is now available at ₹108.20 and diesel cost ₹94.62 for one litre of diesel.

The states that have cut the Value Added Tax are mostly BJP or NDA-ruled state. Punjab and Rajasthan are the only two Congress-ruled states to have reduced the taxes from their side. Some Congress-ruled states, however, had not cut VAT and had demanded further reduction in central excise duty.

States that have so far not lowered VAT include Congress and its allies ruled Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Tamil Nadu. AAP-ruled Delhi, TMC-governed West Bengal, Left-ruled Kerala, TRS-led Telangana and YSR Congress-ruled Andhra Pradesh have also not cut VAT in their areas.

The difference in the price of fuel in the states are due to the tax and the cost of transportation imposed by the central and state government.
