Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia on Wednesday hailed the upcoming entry of StarLink into India's satellite communications sector, calling it “another flower in the bouquet of telecommunications.”
StarLink Set to Enter India’s Satellite Internet Space, Says Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia
Speaking at an event in Gwalior, Scindia emphasized the importance of satellite internet in bridging connectivity gaps in remote and difficult terrains. “In addition to mobile and optical fibre connectivity, satellite services like StarLink are crucial for areas where physical infrastructure is hard to implement,” he said.
The Minister Further Revealed That StarlLink Is Soon To Receives India's Third Satellite
The minister further revealed that StarLink is soon to receive India’s third satellite communication licence, following OneWeb and Reliance Jio’s satellite arm. “After granting the licence, the government will allocate spectrum, and this service will commence in the country shortly,” Scindia informed.
The move is part of the government’s broader strategy to enhance digital inclusion, especially in hilly, tribal, and border regions that remain underserved despite widespread mobile penetration.
StarLink, a project by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, has already deployed thousands of low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites globally, offering high-speed internet even in areas lacking ground-based infrastructure.
Scindia’s announcement signals a policy-level push toward diversifying India's internet backbone and providing robust digital connectivity in the last-mile regions. Once operational, StarLink is expected to cater not only to individual users but also to schools, hospitals, and emergency services in remote zones.
