Stock Market Today: The SGX Nifty gained 0.1% during Tuesday's early trading session, closing at 18,722, signalling a flat start for the local indices NSE Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex. Both the NSE Nifty 50 and the BSE Sensex finished the trading session higher on Monday. At 18,601, the Nifty 50 finished just over the critical level of 18,600. The Sensex increased by 99 points to 62,725.
Inflation cools to 25-mth low in May
Inflation, as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), fell to 4.25% in May, down from 4.70% the previous month, according to data issued on Monday by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI). Although inflation has remained inside the central bank's maximum tolerance zone of 6% for the third month in a row, it is higher than the medium-term aim of 4%.
Stock Market Today: FIIs and DIIs
For the second straight trading session, FIIs resumed their selling streak, while DIIs extended their purchasing run. On Monday, FIIs sold roughly Rs. 627 crore in Indian stocks, while DIIs saw an increase inflow of approximately Rs. 1,794 crore. The Sensex and Nifty 50 indices moved cautiously as traders keenly watched important economic data.
Oil prices gain
Oil prices rose slightly on Tuesday as bargain hunters sought to recoup some of the previous day's losses, but gains were restricted as investors remained cautious ahead of crucial policy decisions by the United States Federal Reserve and other central banks.
