Stock Market Today: Markets open in green, Nifty at 18570 and Sensex at 62502

Stock Market Today: As Dalal Street closely monitors the results of the Gujarat assembly election, the domestic markets on Thursday ended a four-day losing streak to open slightly higher. The benchmark indices, the BSE Sensex and the NSE Nifty50, opened today above 62500 and 18550, respectively.

Today’s market opening

The BSE Sensex was up 93.7 points or 0.15 percent at the market’s opening on Thursday, while the NSE Nifty50 was up 10.3 points or 0.06 percent to 18570.8 levels. At today’s market opening, the 12-share banking index increased 43.6 points, or 0.1%, to reach 43142.30.

Nifty Smallcap 100 started the day at 10,066.70, up 36.65 points, or 0.36 percent, and Nifty Midcap 100 started the day at 32390.30, up 82 points, or 0.25 percent.

The benchmark indices are trading cautiously as results from the Himachal and Gujarat state assemblies are being counted.

Stock Market Today: Asian Markets were trading lower

The Nikkei 225 was trading at 27467, down 219.41 points or 0.79 percent, and the Shanghai Composite was trading at 3199.62, down 12.91 points or 0.40 percent. Asian markets were also trading lower.

The main US benchmarks finished with modest declines, with the Dow 30 ending level at 33597.90 and the S&P 500 ending at 3933.92, down 7.34 percent or 0.19 percent. The Nasdaq Composite fell more than 50 points, or 0.51 percent, to settle at 10958.50.

Dollar Index

The yield on US 10-year bonds has decreased to 3.451 percent. The dollar index is hanging around 105.5 while crude oil prices continue to decline, with Brent falling to USD 78 and WTI currently trading at USD 73, down 3%.
