Stock Market Today: Nifty off to a bad start; Asian stocks inconsistent

Stock Market Today: Nifty futures on the Singapore Exchange were trading 28 points, or 0.15 percent, down at 18,176.50, indicating that Dalal Street was set to open lower on Wednesday.

Rupee falls 28 paise against US dollar

The rupee fell 28 paise to close at 81.70 against the US dollar on Tuesday amid stronger American currency and unabated foreign fund outflow.

Quarterly earnings in Stock Market Today

75 firms will reveal their December quarter profits. Among the key players are Bajaj Auto, Cipla, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, Tata Motors, Patanjali Foods, and DLF.

Nifty stuck between 17,900 and 18,200

Oil rebounds as China demand recovery optimism supports prices

Crude oil prices rose on Wednesday as demand recovery optimism in top importer China grew following the country’s withdrawal from COVID. After prices fell the previous session due to concerns about global economic growth, 19 pandemic curbs provided support. Brent crude futures were up 59 cents, or 0.7%, to $86.72 a barrel as of 0214 GMT, after losing 2.3% the previous session. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) oil futures in the United States climbed 46 cents, or 0.6%, to $80.59 per barrel after falling 1.8% on Tuesday.

Stock Market Today: Asia Pacific shares

MSCI’s broadest index of Asia Pacific shares outside Japan was up 0.4 per cent at the last count. Japan’s Nikkei 225 was up 0.2 per cent, South Korea’s KOSPI 1.4 per cent and Singapore’s Straits Times 1.6 per cent. The China and Hong Kong markets were shut for holiday.
