Top 5 Stocks Of The Day: HCL Technologies, SBI Life Insurance, Infosys, LTIMindtree, and TCS were the top gainers on the Nifty, while the biggest losers were HDFC Bank, Tata Steel, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Axis Bank, and Hindalco Industries. All sectors but information technology saw negative final results; the bank index fell 4%, while the auto, metal, oil and gas, and real estate sectors all saw decreases of 1% to 2%. The BSE Smallcap and Midcap indices both saw a 1% decline.

Sensex and NSE Nifty50

The Nifty was down 460.30 points, or 2.09 percent, at 21,572, while the Sensex was down 1,628.01 points, or 2.23 percent, at 71,500.76 at the close. Approximately 2238 shares fell, 50 shares remained unchanged, and 998 shares advanced. The market saw its largest one-day decline in the previous 18 months, with the Nifty falling below 21,600.

HDFC Bank lost around 7.57 percent

After the market responded cautiously to the results released by the largest private lender in the nation, HDFC Bank's shares experienced an intraday loss of roughly 7.57 percent. Around 2:15 PM on January 17, the BSE Bankex fell by 1929 points, or 3.56 percent, and it was discovered that HDFC Bank was 50% to blame for the decline in the index.
