Top 5 stocks of the day: Top losers were HDFC, Tata Motors, MandM, HDFC Bank and Apollo Hospitals, while winners included BPCL, ONGC, Coal India, Bajaj Finance and NTPC. Among the sectors, the auto index fell by 1 percent and the health, infrastructure, banking and metals indices by 0.3-0.4 percent, while the PSU banking index rose by 0.7 percent. BSE's midcap and smallcap indices rose marginally.

Sensex and NSE Nifty50

Benchmark indices fell below 18,300 with the Nifty on May 16. To close, the Sensex was down 413.24 points, or 0.66 percent, at 61,932.47 and the Nifty was down 112.30 points, or 0.61 percent, at 18,286.50. About 1790 stocks advanced, 1627 stocks declined and 132 stocks remained flat.

Top 5 stocks of the day: Safari Industries Q4 results

Safari Industries' net profit rose to R38.1 billion, a significant increase from R2.4 billion last year. Turnover increased significantly by 57.2 percent to 302.7 billion, compared to 192.5 million last year.

The company's profit before interest, taxes and depreciation (EBITDA) also increased significantly and reached 58.3 billion rubles compared to the corresponding period of last year. In addition, the EBIDTA margin increased to 19.3 percent in the fourth quarter. 8.8 percent of the corresponding period last year.
