Top 5 stocks of the day: The Nifty index's top gainer for the day was Hindalco Industries, which rose 4%, followed by JSW Steel (3.14%), Tata Steel (3.112%), UltraTech Cement (2.2%), and NTPC (2.09%). The company that suffered the largest losses, however, was Asian Paints, which fell by 4.20%. ITC was next, falling by 2.12%, followed by Larsen & Toubro, falling by 1.54%, Britannia Industries, falling by 1.47%, and Kotak Mahindra Bank, down by 1.35%.

The Nifty closed the day 3.35 points, or 0.02%, higher at 19,675.70 while the Sensex ended 29.07 points, or 0.04%, lower at 66,355.71. The Nifty Smallcap 100 index lost 0.11%, while the Nifty Midcap 100 index increased 0.39%, as the overall markets closed with a mixed performance. The BSE Smallcap index concluded the day up 0.31% at 34,279.08, while the BSE Midcap index finished up 0.39% at 29,750.29. The Indian rupee finished the day 5 paise worse against the dollar at 81.87.

Tokyo's blue-chip shares fall ahead of earnings, rate meetings

Tokyo's blue-chip equities declined on Tuesday as investors changed their positions ahead of significant interest rate decisions by global central bankers and earnings reports from significant corporations. The more inclusive Topix index increased by 0.18 percent, or 4.20 points, to 2,285.38 while the benchmark Nikkei 225 index fell by 0.06 percent, or 18.43 points, to 32,682.51. The market was able to start from a positive area thanks to overnight increases in US stocks.
