Top 5 stocks of the day: Power Grid Corporation, Coal India, BPCL, UPL, and Maruti Suzuki were among the top losses on the Nifty, while other notable gainers included Hindalco Industries, TCS, Infosys, LTIMindtree, and Tech Mahindra. Small- and mid-capitalization indices on the BSE decreased by 5% apiece. The auto, capital goods, FMCG, healthcare, oil & gas, and power sectors all saw selling, while the names in the banking, metals, real estate, and information technology industries saw purchasing.

On July 13, amid extreme market volatility, benchmark indices posted gains. The Sensex was up 164.99 points, or 0.25%, at 65,558.89 at the time of close, and the Nifty was up 29.50 points, or 0.15%, at 19,413.80. A total of 129 shares were unchanged, 2037 were down, and 1322 were up.

Shares of Primo Chemicals gain

Following Societe Generale's acquisition of a nearly two percent equity investment in Primo Chemicals, formerly known as Punjab Alkalies & Chemicals, the stock of Primo Chemicals Ltd. increased by more than seven percent on July 13.

Societe Generale, a financial services business based in Europe, purchased 47.97 lakh equity shares, or 1.98 percent of the shares in the chemicals company, through open market transactions on July 12.
