Dollar ticked up slightly
As traders got ready for the end of a Federal Reserve policy meeting that might provide some clue as to when the American central bank will start cutting interest rates, the dollar appreciated marginally on Wednesday. When data revealed that the UK economy shrank in October, the value of sterling fell, making it harder for the Bank of England (BoE) to maintain its position against rate cuts when it meets on Thursday. This could complicate efforts to prevent a recession. As of 05:40 GMT, the U.S. dollar index, which measures the currency against six others, increased by 0.1% to 103.86, partially recovering from the previous day's 0.31% decline.
