After Twitter and Facebook’s parent company Meta, now Zomato, a platform that provides online delivery of food and drink, has also taken the route of retrenchment. Sources told Moneycontrol that the company started laying off employees this week. The company has made a plan to reduce the expenditure and wants to come in profit soon.

100 employees have been laid off

People with information about the layoffs in Zomato said that at least 100 employees have been laid off. These include employees from functions such as product, tech, catalog and marketing. Right now, the retrenchment has not affected the employees associated with the supply chain. The company has planned to lay off 4 percent of its employees.

The company gave this clarification

Responding to query, a Zomato spokesperson said, “On the basis of performance, the exercise to remove about 3 per cent of the employees goes on. There is nothing more to it.

Sources told that Dipendra Goyal, CEO and founder of Zomato, had done a townhall a few days back. He had told in the townhall meeting that there could be retrenchment of employees in many sections of the company. These will be the sections whose performance is not good. Another source said on the condition of anonymity, “The roles in which these employees were, they are no longer needed. Most of these employees were in mid to senior roles.
