Canadian government halts all flights to India until August 21

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread, the Canadian government has halted all flights to India until August 21, 2021. Canada has also issued recommendations advising citizens to postpone all non-essential travel outside the nation until further notice.

As per official notice, in case passengers is travelling to Canada from India through an indirect route will need to provide a pre-departure negative COVID-19 molecular test result from a third nation before continuing their journey to Canada, according to an official notice.

A release issued on Monday from Health Canada noted that the extension of the ban was “based on public health advice”.

That announcement came even as Canada announced a slew of measures relaxing travel restrictions to the country. On September 7, if “domestic epidemiologic situation remains favourable”, Canada will open its borders “to any fully vaccinated travellers who have completed the full course of vaccination with a government of Canada-accepted vaccine at least 14 days prior to entering Canada and who meet specific entry requirements”.

As a first step in this direction, fully vaccinated American citizens and permanent residents will be able to visit Canada for non-essential travel on August 9, as long as they have finished their vaccinations at least 14 days before arrival.

From August 9, fully vaccinated travellers will not be required to undergo a post-arrival test, but those who are not fully vaccinated, unvaccinated, or vaccinated with jabs not recognised by Canadian health authorities will be tested.
