The cases of Tomato Flu are increasing rapidly in the country at this time. More cases of this disease are being seen in children. In view of the seriousness of the matter, the Central Government has issued an advisory. In this advisory, all the guidelines have been given, which is necessary to follow. By issuing a detailed report, the government has also told about the symptoms of Tomato Flu and its treatment.
What is Tomato Flu?
Tomato flu is a viral disease in which tomato-shaped blisters appear on the body. Most of its symptoms remain the same as other viral infections. These include fever, rash, joint pain, tiredness, swollen joints, sore throat. This viral starts with a mild fever, then later a sore throat also starts. After two to three days of fever, red colored rash starts appearing on the body which later turn into blisters. They are mostly seen inside the mouth, on the tongue or in the gums.
What to do if infected?
- Isolate yourself for five to seven days, keep in mind that the disease does not spread.
- Keep your surroundings neat and clean. Viral infected children do not play with other children, do not share toys.
- Do not touch the blisters, if you have done so, wash your hands immediately
- Clothes, utensils of infected children should all be separated
- It is important to get enough rest, sleeping is effective for fast healing
How do you know if you are infected?
- Can be easily detected through Respiratory Samples.
- Respiratory samples can be given within 48 hours of illness.
This viral can also be detected through fecal (faecal) samples. But even here it is necessary to give the sample within 48 hours.
Most of the cases that have come up so far are children below the age of 10 years. In such a situation, the government is most concerned about the children and is emphasizing on keeping them safe from this viral.
At present, Kerala is witnessing the highest number of cases of tomato flu. As of July, 82 children under the age of five have come under the grip of this virus. In view of the increasing cases, the Government of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka has also become alert.
