Class 12 Boy Dies Allegedly By Suicide In Tamil Nadu, 5th Case In 10 Days

Class 12 student committed suicide at his home in Sivaganga district on Wednesday. This is the fifth such case in the state in the last 10 days. Police has registered a case and investigation is going on.

According to ANI, Vinoj, DSP of Sivaganga district told that a class 12 student hanged himself at his house near Karaikudi in Sivaganga district. A case has been registered and we are investigating. His post-mortem was completed. The body has been handed over to his parents.

The boy left a suicide note in which he said he couldn’t cope with math and biology, said police.

There have been reports of suicide of students in the state for the last three consecutive years. On Tuesday, a 17-year-old student of class 11 committed suicide in her house near Sivakasi. The girl’s parents Kannan and Meena are daily wage laborers in a firecracker factory. The girl took this suicidal step after returning home from school. However, the cause of the child’s death is yet to be ascertained.

On Monday, a class 12 student was found dead in her house in Cuddalore. She was told that she was upset after her mother scolded her. The same day, another girl of class 12 of a government-aided school in Tiruvallur district committed suicide in her hostel room.

Keeping in view the increasing number of suicide cases in the state, the state government has decided to appoint 800 doctors to provide psychological counseling to school students.

State School Education Minister Ambil Mahesh
said in a statement on Tuesday that the project was officially approved by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin launched on Wednesday.

“Under no circumstances must students have suicidal thoughts. Turn trials into achievements,” Mr Stalin said, urging teachers to infuse mental strength in children.
