Commonwealth Games: Weightlifter Sanket Sargar bags silver

Sanket Sargar opened India’s account in the Commonwealth Games 2022 by winning a silver medal on Saturday. He missed out on winning the gold by a margin of one kilo. Sargar lifted a total of 248 kg in the men’s 55 kg final, while gold-captured Malaysia’s Bin Kasdan lifted 249 kg.

The Indian player lifted 113 kg in snatch and 135 kg in clean and jerk. He was a flop in the last two attempts of clean and jerk. The reason behind this was his injury.

In his second attempt in clean and jerk, Sargar injured his hand. Although he tried to lift 139 kg in the third attempt even in pain, but he was unsuccessful.

Dilanka Isru Kumara of Sri Lanka won the bronze medal. He lifted a total of 225 kg. In the snatch, Sargar lifted 107 kg in the first attempt and 111 kg in the second attempt.

In the third attempt, he improved his performance by lifting 113 kg. At the same time, in the first attempt in clean and jerk, Sargar lifted a weight of 135, but in the second and third attempt, he missed the weight of 139 kg.

While the Malaysian player lifted the weight of 142 kg in the last attempt.

Sargar has been the champion of Khelo India Youth Games 2020 and Khelo India University Games 2020. Not only this, he also has a national record in his name. This player, who opened India’s account in the Commonwealth Games 2022, is eyeing the Paris Olympics to be held in 2024 and he wants to enter the 61 kg category in the Olympics. Sanket Sargar had reduced drinking even water to show the world the power of India, he used to eat only boiled vegetables and salads.
