Covid update: India's daily deaths fall below 1k in 2 months

 India reported 46,148 new cases of coronavirus in the preceding 24-hour, according to data from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. With 979 deaths in the last 24 hours, the daily count of deaths has dropped below 1,000 for the first time since April 12. The total number of coronavirus cases in the country now stand at 3,02,79,331 while the overall death toll has touched 3,96,730.

Maharashtra, the worst affected state by the pandemic, is the only state to report more than 100 deaths, recorded 411 fatalities. There are 5,72,994 active cases at present and 2,93,09,607 people have recovered from the disease.

According to the Union Health Ministry, a total of 58,578 people have been discharged in the last 24 hours, taking the total discharge to 2,93,09,607 till date.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, 40,63,71,279 samples have been tested up to June 27 for Covid-19. Of these 15,70,515 samples were tested on Sunday.

India saw a new vaccine record as it surpassed the United States in total number of doses administered so far. While India has so far given 32.36 crore doses, the US has administered 32.33 crore doses. However, only 5.6 per cent of the adults in India have so far been vaccinated with both the doses, while US have vaccinated over 25 per cent of its population.
