Covishield Dose Gap Reduced To 8-16 Weeks From 12-16

Covishield Dose GAP: Those who took the first Covishield vaccine against Covid-19 in the country will no longer have to wait for four months to take the second dose. The National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI), which provides critical opinion on the Covid-19 epidemic and vaccination, has recommended that the interval between the first and second doses of Covishield Vaccination be reduced. He has advised the government to give the second dose of Covishield between 8 to 16 weeks.

This recommendation has been made amidst the decreasing number of corona cases in the country and the increasing number of vaccinations. Currently, the second dose of Covishield is being given between 12 and 16 weeks. According to the information received from the sources, the rapidly spreading Omicron variant is behind reducing the time interval of the second dose.

However, NTAGI has not recommended any change in the timing of the second dose of Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin. The second dose of Covaxin is given 28 days after the first dose. However, this recommendation to reduce the time between two doses of Covishield has not yet been included in the National Covid-19 Vaccination Program.

That is, it has not been implemented yet. Official sources say that this recommendation of NTAGI is based on scientific data at the global level.

Sources said that if the second dose of Covishield is given after eight weeks, the antibody response has been found to be similar to the dose given between 12 and 16 weeks. If this decision is implemented, then the number of people taking second doses will increase rapidly, which is still a big difference.

There is a steady decrease in the daily cases of Covid (Covid Daily Cases India). A total of 1,761 cases of corona have been found in India during 24 hours. In this, a decrease of 15 percent has been registered as compared to the last 24 hours. A day earlier, 2075 cases of corona were registered in the country. In 24 hours, 127 deaths due to corona have been registered in the country.

There has been a decrease of 1562 in the active cases of corona in the country. Now the active cases are 26,240. Under the vaccination campaign in the country, 181.21 crore people have been given the dose of Covid vaccine. 17 lakh corona doses have been given to 12-14 year olds.
