Delhi schools reopen for all classes after air quality improves slightly

After a setback due to high pollution level in the city, schools in Delhi repoened for all classes on Monday. After the Air Quality improved, the schools in the national capital have been reopened.

On November 16, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) had issued a series of directions to the governments of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh to deal with the air pollution crisis in Delhi and neighbouring areas.

Meanwhile, all educational institutions in Delhi-NCR would have to remain shut. Schools and colleges, which were just beginning to open up after remaining closed through the pandemic, had to revert to the online mode of teaching.

It’s been years since Delhi and adjoining areas have been facing a pollution crisis in the months of November and December.

The main reasons for poor air quality in the region include farm fires, industrial pollution, vehicular pollution, unfavourable weather conditions and dust from construction sites, among others.
