Delhi: The Delhi Transport Department will send reminders to vehicle owners whose vehicles are seen by special numberplate reader cameras mounted at four places throughout the capital and are not in possession of a current pollution under control certificate (PUCC). Read on to learn more.
Delhi PUC certificate surveillance programme
For drivers in Delhi who lack a PUC (Pollution Under Control) certificate, difficulties may arise. The transportation department will soon install cameras at 25 petrol stations to monitor vehicles lacking pollution control (PUC) certificates. These will allow for the identification of automobiles based on their licence plates. PUC will be matched with the data in this case. The department has installed this tracking feature at four petrol stations as an experimental project. In light of the statistics on violators, it has been agreed to increase it to 25.
An official said, “These cameras can detect whether a vehicle has a valid PUCC or not by scanning their number plate. This is being done as a pilot project for two months at four pollution checking centres at fuel stations. In the last few days, 60 per cent of vehicles have been detected without a valid PUCC at these points.”
How much does it cost to get a PUC certificate?
In Delhi, two-wheeler pollution testing costs Rs 60, four-wheeler pollution testing costs Rs 80, and diesel-powered four-wheeler pollution testing costs Rs 100. A separate GST of 18% is added.
