Driving rules: 3 lesser known laws that can get you in trouble, follow them or be ready to pay a hefty fine

Driving laws: To complete their menial tasks, many people use bikes or scooters. They then leave the house in their slippers or sandals. But did you know that using a bike or scooter while wearing slippers could result in thousands in fines? Although it can be costly, the majority of people choose to disobey these driving laws. You must be aware of this law if you ride a bike or a scooter on the road.

Driving laws

1. Not letting an emergency vehicle pass

While giving emergency vehicles like ambulances and fire brigades full access is frequently regarded as common sense and responsible action, there is now a traffic rule as well for the violators. There is a fine of up to Rs 10,000 and/or a jail sentence of up to six months if someone is found guilty of refusing to allow free passage or obstructing such vehicles.

2. Driving in slippers

The offence of riding in chappals, slippers, sandals, or floaters carries a Rs 1,000 fine. This is owing to the minimal amount of traction that such footwear offers, which could cause the rider’s legs to slip. In addition, there is a considerable probability that wearing such footwear while shifting gears on a motorcycle could cause the wearer’s foot to slip, which could result in an accident. Given that, remember to put on shoes before riding a bike or scooter the next time.

3. Physically or mentally unfit to drive

The traffic police may issue a challan to you if you are determined to be physically or mentally unfit to operate a motor vehicle. The new driving laws state that a driver would first be penalised Rs 1,000 if they are determined to be mentally or physically unfit to operate a vehicle. The punishment for the same offender is to pay a fine of Rs 2,000 if they are found guilty a second time.
