ED raids houses of top officials, Know details

A team of Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials on Tuesday raided the residences of the Excise Commissioner of Punjab and a Joint Commissioner. Sources gave this information.

However, the sources said that it is not yet known in relation to which cases these raids were conducted.

The ED raided the residence of Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer and Excise Commissioner Varun Roojam in Sector-20, Punjab and Joint Commissioner (Excise) Naresh Dubey in Panchkula, Haryana.

Both Roojam and Dubey worked on the formulation of the excise policy of Punjab. This policy was implemented from July.

However, Roojam and Dubey could not be immediately reached for comment.

The development comes days after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided the premises of Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia over alleged irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22.

In July, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena had recommended a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in the implementation of the Excise Policy 2021-22. Opposition parties in Punjab had also demanded a probe by the CBI and the ED, alleging scam in the state’s excise policy. Opposition leaders had alleged that the state’s excise policy was a ‘replica’ of the policy in Delhi.
