Electric Vehicle: In line with a global trend of moving away from fossil fuels, India’s market for electric vehicles (EVs) is expected to rise rapidly in the years to come.
Smartphone businesses are among the players battling for this opportunity, so it makes sense for these tech titans to use their experience and enormous financial flows to enter a developing EV market as sophisticated technologies like voice control and assisted driving—areas of expertise for mobile manufacturers—are also important components of electric vehicles (EVs), in addition to batteries and motors. In this article, we will tell you about the EVs that some major tech companies are expected to launch in the market soon.
Electric Vehicles from some major tech companies
Apple
For a number of years, Apple has been working on its “Project Titan” electric vehicle project. The vehicle’s 2026 debut date has been moved up from its original 2025 estimation. They say it will cost less than $100,000 USD.
Initially, only highways will be able to be driven autonomously by the Apple vehicle; the steering wheel and other human controls will be retained. The goal of the project, it seems, has switched to creating a vehicle that can be operated manually and autonomously.
Xiaomi
The SU7 sedan is Xiaomi’s debut electric car. The SU7 has a wheelbase of 3,000 mm and measures 4,997 mm in length, 1,963 mm in width, and 1,455 mm in height. It can travel at a maximum speed of 210 km/h.
The SU7 comes with two-wheel options—19′′ and 20′′—and a curb weight of 1,980 kg.
There will be two variants of the SU7 available: one with Lidar and the other without. The front windscreen has a lidar mounted behind it.
Three variations of the SU7 are planned, and manufacturing is scheduled to start in December 2023.
Huawei Avatr 12
A Full-size electric hatchback with a distinctive brand aesthetic is the Huawei Avatr 12. With up to 578 horsepower, it can go 434 kilometres on a single charge. At a price of 300,800 yuan, the Avatr 12 is equipped with Huawei’s ADS 2.0 intelligent driving technology, which is driven by 29 sensors.
The second model produced by the combined Changan/CATL/Huawei partnership is the Avatr 12. There are three different trim levels offered.
Micromax
A rumour claims that Micromax, an electronics company based in India, intends to join the electric vehicle (EV) industry.
According to reports, the Gurugram-based company is remodelling one of its offices in order to begin construction on the new project.
Micromax may decide to leave the smartphone industry and go into electric vehicle sales. The business intends to introduce a two-wheeled electric vehicle soon.
Following a decline in smartphone sales, Micromax is purportedly considering a move into the electric vehicle sector.
Sony
Sony has developed an automobile platform called the Sony Vision-S that is exclusively electric. During the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the Vision-S Concept, the first model, was presented. 2022 saw the unveiling of the second concept, the Vision-S 02. Vision-S 01 was the name of the original concept that was applied retrospectively.
Direct competition for the Tesla Model X is the Vision-S 02, a seven-seat SUV. It is expected to cost approximately £90,000, which is in line with the pricing of the Tesla Model X.
The real world is now being approached via Sony’s Vision-S initiative. Sony is working on creating an electric vehicle that might have some sort of self-driving capability.
