Elon Musk’s SpaceX sends 46 Starlink satellites on Falcon 9 into orbit

Elon Musk’s space venture SpaceX has successfully launched 46 Starlink satellites to low-Earth orbit.

Globally accessible high-speed, low-latency broadband Internet is offered through Starlink. More than 2,50,000 people use it worldwide.

At 6:39 p.m., a Falcon 9 rocket carrying 46 satellites launched from Space Launch Complex 4 East (SLC-4E) at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. On Sunday at 7:09 PT (7:09 a.m. IST Monday).

This Falcon 9 first stage had launched and landed six times before. According to SpaceX, the booster also assisted in launching three Starlink batches, the NASA Double Asteroid Redirection Test mission, and the Earth observation satellite Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich.

According to Elon Musk, this Internet service would come across as one of cheaper options despite it being of ‘premium pricing.’ Reportedly, this new Starlink Maritime service has a download speed of 350 mbps and has the capability to connect yachts and ships in the ocean.

As we know, Starlink is the ambitious project of Elon Musk’s space venture SpaceX to launch a constellation of satellites, thousands in number. Mainly, into low- to medium Earth orbit, for the essential provision of low latency broadband Internet coverage to the Earth underneath.

The 46 Starlink satellites were launched into low Earth orbit by the Falcon 9’s upper stage as scheduled 63 minutes after liftoff.

SpaceX posted on Twitter, “Deployment of 46 Starlink satellites confirmed.”

It was SpaceX’s 29th orbital mission of the year and the 17th specifically for Starlink.

The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) granted SpaceX permission to operate its Starlink satellite internet system on moving vehicles like automobiles, trucks, boats, and aeroplanes earlier this month.

A constellation of thousands of satellites will be launched into low- to medium-Earth orbit as part of SpaceX’s ambitious Starlink project to deliver low-latency broadband access to the planet’s surface.

The corporation stated that it had 400,000 users recently after exiting beta testing near the end of last year and putting more than 2,400 satellites in orbit.

Customers who want to get Starlink must pay $599 for the kit, which includes a user terminal, and then an additional $110 every month.
