The Chenab Bridge being built for the Indian Railways is higher than the Eiffel Tower in height. This 1.315 km long bridge is 359 meters high. It is the highest arch bridge in the world.
The pictures shared by Indian Railways are not looking less than heaven. This bridge surrounded by clouds is the most spectacular view of nature. Chenab Bridge is built above the clouds. Seeing such a sight, your breath will stop. It has taken about 18 years to build this bridge. This project will be completed by December of 2022.
The height of this railway bridge is 359 meters above the level of Chenab river, which is a world record in itself. It is part of the Udhampur, Srinagar, Baramulla Rail Link Project. Which is five times higher than the Qutub Minar of Delhi. It is 35 meters higher than the Eiffel Tower in France. With the construction of this bridge, the Indian railway network has been connected from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. That is, the journey from Kashmir to Kanyakumari will now be possible through railways as well.
According to the Government of India, Rs 1,486 crore has been spent to build the Chenab Bridge. There were many problems in making this bridge and it was not easy to build this bridge. This bridge is surrounded by mountains. Weather was the biggest challenge in making this bridge. Because winds of up to 100 to 150 kilometers per hour move around the bridge. That is why this bridge has been made so strong that even 260 kmph wind does not cause any damage. Its age is estimated to be more than 100 years. This bridge cannot be rusted in any way.
This magnificent bridge built on the Chenab river is a unique example of bridge engineering. The bridge is made from structural steel. It can withstand temperatures from minus 10 degrees to 40 degrees Celsius. There will be no damage to this bridge due to earthquakes and explosions. Army and security forces will also be able to use it.
The construction work of Chenab Bridge started in 2002. But its work was stopped in the year 2008, which was resumed in 2010. The Ministry of Railways has shared beautiful pictures of Chenab Bridge on Twitter on 13 September. The bridge is expected to open for rail traffic from December this year. In these pictures you can see the bridge peeping through the clouds. This is a very beautiful sight.
