Film producer arrested for defrauding 100 investors

The producer is suspected to have duped them to the tune of at least Rs 6 crore.

A film producer has been arrested by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police for allegedly defrauding over 100 investors. He persuaded them with impressive proposals and duped them.

The charged Chanderkant Sharma (41), who co-owns CineMirchi Production, has made two films — ‘The Great Indian Casino’, which was released last year, and ‘Lust Wala Love’ — which Is not released yet.

The producer is suspected to have duped them to the tune of at least Rs 6 crore.
Police say that the amount may further go up.

Sharma allured to invest in the entertainment sector and other undefined projects by the company on the pretext of high returns of more than 70 per cent, according to the police.

Various bank accounts in Sharma’s name were observed and inspected closely. “A lookout circular was issued against the Sharma to prevent him from fleeing the country but it was learnt he was continuing with the investment schemes and relaunching his fraudulent plan from unidentified locations. This input was developed and we zeroed in on him in Chandigarh and arrested him,” Joint commissioner of police (EOW) OP Mishra said.
