The Delhi government has banned Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations at public places in view of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
An order issued by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) said Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations will not be allowed at public places in the national capital. No one will be allowed to set up tent or pandal for installation of Ganesh idols. No permission will be granted for social or religious procession.
Further, it should be ensured that crowds do not gather at any religious or social place. Permission will also not be granted for any procession, it said.

Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated this month and considering the prevailing restrictions on gatherings and congregations and the present situation of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been decided that the celebrations of the festival may not be allowed in public places, the DDMA order stated.
Meanwhile, India on Wednesday witnessed a sharp single day in a spike in the new coronavirus cases with the daily caseload soaring to 37, 875.
In terms of daily vaccination, India has made a solid recovery. In the last 13 days, the mass vaccination drive has seen over 10 crore jabs being administered. While in terms of numbers, this is possibly the biggest vaccination figure in the world. However, when one looks at this in terms of percentage, the population covered is still just 17%.
