Today is the 309th day since India implemented a nationwide lockdown to help curb the novel coronavirus pandemic.
So far, India has recorded 1,06,89,527 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 1,53,724 deaths. A total of 1,03,59,305 people have recuperated from COVID-19 so far.
There are 1,76,498 active cases in the country as of date, which comprises 1.65 percent of the total caseload, the data stated. India’s recovery rate continues to rise and now stands at 96.91 percent.
Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddh Nagar recorded six new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday that pushed the district’s infection tally to 25,327, official data showed. The number of active cases in the district came down to 52 from 58 the previous day, while its recovery rate surged to 99.43 percent, according to the data released by the UP Health Department for a 24-hour period.
The COVID-19 case count in the Thane district of Maharashtra has gone up to 2,52,463 with the detection of 255 new cases, an official said on Wednesday. The viral infection also claimed the lives of five more people, taking the death toll in the district to 6,127. Currently, the COVID-19 death rate in the district is 2.43 percent, the official said.

The cumulative number of healthcare workers vaccinated against COVID-19 crossed 20.29 lakh till Tuesday.
A total of 20,29,424 beneficiaries (till 7 pm Tuesday) were vaccinated through 36,572 sessions, as per the provisional report, said Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).
Indian Council of Medical Research informed, “A total of 19,36,13,120 samples were tested for COVID-19 up to January 26. Of these, 5,50,426 samples were tested yesterday.”
