Covid-19: “Mask up, avoid international travel,” Indian Medical Association issues advisory

Covid-19: Indian Medical Association, the main medical organisation in the nation, today urged the general population to start acting in a Covid-appropriate manner. To combat “the approaching Covid outbreak,” it was advised to wear face masks in public places, keep social distance, and regularly wash your hands with soap and water or sanitizer.

Avoid Social gatherings

Additionally, the IMA advised against attending weddings, political or social gatherings, and taking international trips. Furthermore, it urged people to seek medical attention if they experienced any symptoms such as fever, sore throat, cough, loose stools, etc. and to obtain their Covid vaccinations, including the prophylactic dosage, as soon as possible.

It said, “In view of the sudden surge of COVID cases in different countries, Indian Medical Association alerts and appeals the public to follow COVID appropriate behaviour with immediate effect. As per the available reports, nearly 5.37 lakhs new cases have been reported in last 24 hours from major countries like the USA, Japan, South Korea, France, and Brazil. India has reported 145 new cases in last 24 hours, out of which four cases are the new China variant – BF.7.”

Advisory for administration

It urged the administration to increase readiness “for any such event as observed in 2021” by giving the required directives to the relevant Ministries and Departments to provide the emergency medications, oxygen supplies, and ambulance services.

It added, “As of now, the situation is not alarming and therefore there is no need to panic. Prevention is better than cure.”
